Westford Historic Renovation
Builder: Silva Brothers Construction
Kitchen Cabinetry Design: Focal Point Design

For this project, the clients wanted to bring a historic, fire-damaged home back to its former glory while updating it for energy efficiency. To preserve the home’s history while giving it all the modern conveniences, we focused our renovation efforts on the kitchen and bathrooms, leaving the original stairs, built-ins and other wood trim. We expanded the kitchen into an adjacent bump out, as well as the deck off the kitchen. We relocated the cramped basement stairs to the pantry and reworked the bathroom layouts. We created a large walk-in closet for the daughter’s vintage clothes collection, and the deck off the Primary Bedroom was enclosed to make a three-season sun room. The grand staircase and entry hall we were able to preserve and lovingly restore to its former glory.
While making the layout changes, we took advantage of the interior fire damage to update the exterior walls and new roofs with a modern insulation assembly. This, along with a solar panel array and energy efficient heat pump, will allow the clients to operate the house with net zero grid energy consumption over the course of a year.
